Chrisoula Moraitis & Richard Muthama
From Thesis to Reality: Advancing Light Justice Through Practice
This session will feature two emerging lighting professionals as they explore the transition from academic research to real-world impact. Drawing from their thesis projects, both presenters will discuss how their work aligns with the principles of Light Justice and how they have integrated these ideas into their professional practice.
Chrisoula Moraitis will highlight efforts to illuminate a community mural in Nubian Square as a means of fostering cultural visibility and safety. Richard Muthama will share his contributions to the IES Security Committee, informed by his academic research focused on equitable and humane lighting practices in spaces of incarceration.
This talk aims to inspire dialogue on how young professionals can shape a more just and community-centered approach to lighting design.
