LP10, An Updated Take on Sustainable Lighting

After five years of development, the IES Sustainable Lighting Committee is set to release the overhauled LP-10 Lighting Practice: Sustainable Lighting – An Introduction to the Environmental Impacts of Lighting in fall 2025. The updated LP introduces sustainability concepts, outlines design practices, and provides technical guidance for incorporating life cycle analysis and material transparency into product development.

Organized into five sections - Introduction & Scope, Sustainable Lighting Design in Practice, Life Cycle, Material Health, and Frameworks for Sustainability Goals - the document bridges design and manufacturing perspectives. To stay relevant in a rapidly evolving field, LP-10 will feature regularly updated appendices with the latest research and resources, including new life cycle assessment data to better evaluate carbon impacts.
